Marsha Halpin Johnson ’59 and her husband Bruce established a charitable remainder unitrust in December 2004 to support Colby-Sawyer College. Marsha and Bruce are committed to the college in many ways.
“These are difficult times for small colleges,” Marsha says, “and we feel our support can have a much greater impact for Colby-Sawyer than the same amount would have if given to a large college. Colby-Sawyer has a significant economic impact on New London, bringing students, visitors, and parents to town.”
Marsha volunteers in the Alumni Office, is a long-standing member of the Presidents Alumni Advisory Council, and was the founding member of the college’s Friendship Family Program—promoting cultural exchange between students and American Friendship families.
“The quality of life for the town is enhanced by the ‘Adventures in Learning’ courses and by the various speakers, gatherings, performances, and sporting events that are supported by the school. Colby-Sawyer also provides needed education in specialized fields, such as nursing, environmental science, and sports management, that fills important places in our society,” Marsha concludes. “New London is significantly enhanced in many ways by the presence of the college in the town.”
